Our Women’s Health Guide is now online

A plain English guide to cervical screening, breast screening and menopause, shaped by what women in Redbridge told us

Over the past two years, we’ve listened to women across Redbridge talk about cervical screening, breast screening and menopause. Again and again, we heard the same thing: people want clear, straightforward information about what to expect, what their options are and where to go for support.

So we’ve put it all in one place. Our Women’s Health Guide is now available to read and download on our website.

What’s inside

  • Cervical screening. Who is invited, what happens at the appointment, what HPV means and what your results mean. It also covers the new home testing kits, which are being offered to some women aged 30 to 65 who haven’t been for screening.
  • Breast screening. Who is invited, what to expect at a mammogram and how to check your breasts yourself. There’s also local support, including Sue’s House.
  • Perimenopause and menopause. Common symptoms, how to talk to your GP and where to find support locally, including a free monthly online support group.

We’ve explained medical terms as we go, so you don’t need to know the jargon to use it.

Why we made it

Our research found that many women weren’t sure what screening involves, didn’t know their rights, or found it hard to get clear advice about menopause. Some told us they’d put off appointments because they didn’t know what to expect. This guide is our response. It’s designed to help women feel more confident about looking after their health and asking for the care they need.

The guide was launched at Serenity Ilford in September, and printed copies are being shared at community events across the borough.
