The first year of the project involved engaging with only the deaf community. We conducted 3 E&V visits to London Emergency Departments:
Queen’s Hospital Romford, University College London, Newham Hospital

On Wednesday 27 April, Healthwatch Redbridge (HWR) was made aware that the Brookside Adolescent Unit was to close. NELFT NHS Foundation Trust informed us that the decision to close was taken in the wake of concerns raised by the CQC.

Many people with communication impairments have limited access to information and receive sub-optimal treatment due to the lack of staff awareness of their specific needs.

The visits were planned to evaluate access for those with communication impairments to Emergency Departments (EDs) across North, Central and East London.
