Healthwatch Redbridge responds to the departure of BHRUT Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer

Healthwatch Redbridge has noted the announcement that Matthew Trainer, Chief Executive of Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT), will be leaving the Trust in the coming months to take up a new role at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We would like to thank Matthew for his dedication and leadership during his five-year tenure. Throughout this time, Healthwatch Redbridge has worked closely with Matthew and his team to ensure that the patient voice remains at the heart of hospital improvements.

We have welcomed the significant progress made under his leadership, including the Trust moving out of special measures and the notable achievement of securing a CQC 'Good' rating for maternity services - an area of particular focus for our own advocacy work.

We have worked with Matthew for many years and have seen first-hand the positive changes he has brought to the Trust. His commitment to engaging with Healthwatch and listening to the experiences of local residents has been greatly appreciated. While we are sad to see him move on, we wish him the very best in his new role at King's.

We look forward to continuing our collaborative relationship with Fiona Wheeler as she steps into the role of interim Chief Executive, ensuring that the safety and care of Redbridge residents remain the Trust's top priority.
