    During the Coronavirus pandemic) care homes had to work incredibly hard to continue to provide a safe and supportive environment to their residents during unprecedented conditions.

    Healthwatch Redbridge commissioned the Refugee and Migrant Forum Essex & London (RAMFEL) to look into issues around access to healthcare for vulnerable migrants.

    Havering & Redbridge identified that too many people were being admitted to hospital for entirely preventable causes, resulting in an over reliance on institutional (bed based) services as the default option rather than considering individual needs.

    RAMFEL works with a range of vulnerable migrants that have different entitlements to healthcare along with varying needs. The rules are complicated to understand and can be very confusing.

    13 Local Healthwatch and the British Deaf Association (BDA) across North, Central and East London have been working together for the last year to improve access for disabled patients across NHS trusts.

    Jo's experience has changed the pathway for over 1000 people in the Borough.

    A consultation was held at Wanstead Library on the 13th of October 2014 to discuss these proposed changes. Everyone was invited to this consultation, including patients, carers, councillors and general members of the public.
